These 17 N.J. towns need to build the most affordable housing, new guidelines say

Municipalities in New Jersey learned last month exactly how many affordable housing units they’re expected to allow over the next decade.
The state Department of Community Affairs released the calculations in October detailing the number of affordable units each of the state’s 564 municipalities are required to allow to be built or rehabilitated by 2035.
The numbers don’t mean towns will be building and renovating housing themselves. Instead, they are required to create zoning ordinances and housing plans that allow developers to propose building or rehabilitate units to create more affordable places to live.
